I lie awake
I've gone to ground
I'm watchin' porn
In my hotel dressing gown
And now I dream of you
But I still believe
There's only enough for one
In this lonely hotel suite
The journey's long
And it feels so bad
I'm thinkin' back to the last day we had
Old moon fades into the new
And soon I know I'll be back with you
I'm nearly with you
I'm nearly with you
When I'm weak, I draw strength from you
And when you're lost I know how to change your mood
And when I'm down you breathe life over me
Even though we're miles apart we are each other's destiny
On a clear day
I'll fly home to you
I'm bendin' time gettin' back to you
Old moon fades into the new
And so I know I'll be back with you
I'm nearly with you
I'm nearly with you
When I'm weak I draw strength from you
And when you're lost I know how to change your mood
And when I'm down you breathe life over me
Even though we're miles apart we are each other's destiny
When I'm weak I draw strength from you
And when you're lost I know how to change your mood
And when I'm down you breathe life over me
Even though we're miles apart we are each other's destiny
I'll fly, I'll fly home
I'll fly home
I'll fly home
I'll fly home ...

For me, this is one of the most
beautiful love songs ever written.
I first heard it in 2003 on
Midori's magical "Big Sonic Chill" radio program,
which played from 10 PM until 2 AM weeknights
in San Diego, California,
and which I count as the single best
radio show I have ever listened to.
Not even a decade earlier, this song would have
been unplayable on any radio station,
not just because the singer is watching porn,
but because it's a she watching porn,
and because she's the one flying home,
not him flying home to her.
Its gentle rebellion, the breathy voice of the singer
and her backups,
the atmospheric, ethereal instrumentation,
the love you can feel in every single note,
in every syllable sung ...
It's absolutely perfect.
