"The Electric Co." by U2 (Boy, 1980)

When the Idea Came to Life: Fractal Art by Shawn Michel de Montaigne

The Electric Co.

U2

~~*~~

Boy, stupid boy

Don't sit at the table

Until you're able to

Toy, broken toy

Shout, shout, you're inside out

If you don't know

Electric Co.

If you don't know

Electric Co.

Red, running red

Play for real

Talk and feel

A hole in your head

You won't shout

You're spoon fed

If you don't know

Electric Co.

If you don't know

Electric Co.

If you don't know

Electric Co.

If you don't know

Electric Co.

It's difficult to convey to you the sense of power

that overcame me the first time I heard this song.

This brand new group named U2 had tapped

into some vein deep into my soul,

and I fell in love with them on the spot.

Their early music is so supercharged, so

rebellious and defiant ...

It's difficult to put into words how it makes me feel.

Their later work, especially after

No Line On the Horizon,

which I consider a masterpiece,

has been disappointing and very mediocre,

music written for aging Boomers more than it is

for that eternally youthful rebel spark deep, deep down,

one that, speaking as a Boomer,

never died within my soul.

Perhaps I'm different than my peers.

I probably am.

If so, I am eternally grateful.

My hope is that U2 returns to these roots,

because I'm certain they haven't been,

nor can they ever be, exhausted.
