Don't Worry Baby
The Beach Boys
~~*~~
Well, it's been building up inside of me
For oh I don't know how long
I don't know why
But I keep thinkin'
Somethin's bound to go wrong
But she looks in my eyes
And makes me realize
When she says, "Don't worry, baby
Everything will turn out all right
Don't worry baby"
I guess I shoulda kept my mouth shut
When I start to brag about my car
But I can't back down now because
I pushed the other guys too far
She makes me come alive
And makes me wanna drive
When she says, "Don't worry baby
Everything will turn out all right
Don't worry baby"
She told me, "Baby, when you race today
Just take along my love with you
And if you knew how much I loved you, baby,
Nothin' could go wrong with you"
Oh what she does to me
When she makes love to me
And she says, "Don't worry baby
Everything will turn out all right
Don't worry baby
Everything will turn out all right
Don't worry, baby"

I use Random.org to pick these songs once it's time.
The last song it picked was Elton's timeless classic
"I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues."
This go-round it picked this gem,
one that Elton's beautiful song
struggles to look up to and be more like.
No criticism against Elton or his song.
Not at all.
It's just that this ballad, for me at least,
is the absolute gold standard.
The genius of this song is in its focus.
He's worried about racing, and his car.
He's struggling with a sense of doom.
But she assures him, "Don't worry, baby.
Everything will be all right."
The last stanza his focus turns to her, not his car or racing:
"Oh what she does to me
When she makes love to me."
He's focused on her now,
and you can feel the love.
It's deep and rich and real.
This is songwriting at its very finest,
a masterclass in storytelling and poetry.
